Senior Full Stack Engineer - London / Amsterdam / Remote available

Job description

Avant Arte wants to make art radically more accessible for a new generation.

We started as a cult blog of contemporary artists, initially inspired through rap lyrics and hip-hop album covers. That blog grew organically into the world’s largest and most engaged online art community, with more than 2 million of their followers under the age of 35.

We collaborate with iconic contemporary artists like Jenny Holzer, Cai Guo-Qiang, Claire Tabouret and the Chapman brothers, making their work more accessible to younger collectors through sculpture editions, print editions and unique works on paper. And we have built a highly engaged community of next-generation art collectors, which means Avant Arte’s artist launches are heavily oversubscribed, with many behaving more like fashion drops, selling out in under 30 seconds.

The company’s vision is to inspire a new generation, building a vibrant and engaged community of people who love art, around the artists who inspire them, as well as a platform that makes it simple for collectors to buy and sell pieces from their favourite artists.

We’re a small team with really big ambitions, both for what we want to achieve and also the environment we’re building. We want to create a company that remains thoughtful as we scale and tries to be genuinely progressive in how we operate; we want people to really own what they do and be given the autonomy and freedom to make mistakes, learn, and create something meaningful. We all work incredibly hard because we really care about what Avant Arte is here to do – we’re looking for exceptional people who are proactive, hungry to learn and want to put their pride in our collective achievements.

You’ll work in a cross-functional team with other highly skilled team members. You will help to define our technology stack and will thoughtfully and incrementally create new features and products that delight our customers and help drive our business towards an ambitious vision.

This is a role that will be challenging and rewarding in equal measure while providing high levels of autonomy during an incredibly exciting phase of growth.

We are in the lucky position of having a pretty cutting edge code base with no large legacy systems or dependencies to hold you back.

As an early-stage business, your work will include many opportunities to be part of conversations about more than just technology – including design, data science and product strategy – but the core of your role will involve

  • Design, build, operate, and maintain critical systems, owning reliability, performance, and availability that support our evergoing community of engaged art lovers.

  • You will be focused on delivering new features and functionality that will continue to enhance our customer experience, while improving the overall efficiency and effectiveness of our core systems.

  • Work with your team to rapidly test ideas on users, use results for iterations and improve our product.

  • Take technical responsibility for key areas of development, where you will influence decisions around tooling, architecture and Agile processes.

Our technology stack is diverse and ever-changing. Examples of the technologies we currently use and you’ll be working with include (but are by no means limited to):

  • Javascript, React, Typescript, Golang, Node.js

  • GraphQL, GRCP

  • Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

  • BigQuery, PostgreSQL, MySQL

  • Kubernetes, Docker

  • GCP Pub/Sub

  • Customer-focused: You have a passion for building intuitive and scalable products that enhance our business capabilities and drill down to what works best for our customers.

  • Up to code: You have experience in software development, you write clean, lean, effective code in multiple languages, all version controlled. You pick the right tool for the job and are not limited to a single paradigm or language.

  • Pragmatic: You and your team take on complex multi-domain problems, analyze, design, build modular solutions, and deliver end-to-end in an MVP, value-first and iterative approach.

  • You think big: A small, innocent application can always grow. You have ideas on how to distribute a system so that it can work at scale.

  • A team player: You guide and help your teammates with planning and delivering high-quality software and also take on communication across teams.

  • You’ll get to be part of building one of the fastest-growing tech companies in culture, backed by early investors in companies like Skype, Farfetch, Glossier & Facebook

  • Exciting technical challenges to work on and great opportunities to learn, grow and develop.

  • A truly unique and agile working environment surrounded by a diverse range of passionate experts.

  • You will be joining a growing, self-organising team, and will have the freedom to decide the most efficient way to work together and get the job done. Our teams and engineers do not work in silos, as such you will be given opportunities to use or develop skills outside of your core skill set too.

Avant Arte believes that no two people are alike, and that’s a great thing. Diversity in culture, thought and background has been key to growing our product. That’s why we believe in giving equal opportunity to all, regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, age or disability.
