Avant Arte wants to make art radically more accessible for a new generation.

The company began as a cult blog of contemporary artists, initially inspired through rap lyrics and hip-hop album covers. That blog grew organically into the world’s largest and most engaged online art community, with more than 2 million of their followers under the age of 35.

The company collaborates with iconic contemporary artists like Jenny Holzer, Cai Guo-Qiang, Claire Tabouret and the Chapman brothers, making their work more accessible to younger collectors through sculpture editions, print editions and unique works on paper. And they have built a highly engaged community of next-generation art collectors, which means Avant Arte’s artist launches are heavily oversubscribed, with many behaving more like fashion drops, selling out in under 30 seconds.

As Commercial Operations Director, you will be central to building and optimising Avant Arte’s processes and systems across our supply chain and sales teams, measuring and reporting those systems, and making strategic decisions as we scale.

We’re looking for an experienced and highly motivated Commercial Operations Director with a proactive and process-oriented mindset to join our London team. You will be the operational right hand to our Chief Commercial Officer, and work collaboratively across our supply and sales teams. You will be responsible for creating and optimising end-to-end systems, measuring performance of those systems, and driving strategic operational outcomes for Avant Arte. We really do encourage everyone to proactively step outside of their job description if you see something that could be improved but the core of your role will involve:

  • Team operations: Managing teams in supply and sales to help build the operational foundations for their teams, solve business challenges and implement new tools, processes and ways of working
    • Regularly measuring and reporting against team performance as part of team and company-wide cadences, and ownership of key team dashboards and tools

    • Continuously working to optimise and simplify team processes as the business scales

    • Making decisions around operational activities and set strategic goals (quarterly OKRs)

  • Cross functional operations: Overseeing smooth handovers and effective ways of working throughout an end-to-end project lifecycle from supply to sales to maximise throughput.

  • Commercial analysis, data & reporting: Leading on commercial and data analysis, research and diligence to track performance and drive decision making for the team
    • Identification of trends, blockers, and opportunities to optimise team performance

    • Helping us better forecast supply throughput and sales pipeline

    • Internal & external monitoring and reporting of business metrics and performance

The main skills we’re looking for are:

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail: you’re confident in using data and would be able to use your analytical skills and data insights to analyse the performance of our business both historically and into the future

  • Commercial mindset: you’re able to carry out high fidelity commercial diligence on new models, projects and initiatives; you can also deliver clarity and actionable insights into the drivers of all aspects of our current performance

  • Proactivity, pragmatism and great communication skills: you’re an effective and hands-on manager who is able to communicate complex concepts clearly to a range of different audiences, distilling the key points and actions to build momentum. You balance high standards with a pragmatic approach to making progress in the most efficient way

  • Relationship building and a collaborative approach: you have the ability to build relationships with a range of different people, building trust easily and establishing Commercial Operations as an enabler of strategic decision making across different teams

  • You’re incredibly organised and well structured: you’re able to introduce systems and processes that prepare Avant Arte’s operations for our next stage of growth

We think you’ll probably have:

  • Experience working in a strategic or commercial role, with experience managing local and remote teams

  • A strong track record and experience working for a fast-growing startup or an online marketplace

  • An ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambitious environment- you have the desire to roll up your sleeves and make an impact

  • People management skills to inspire and inclusively motivate a team, with excellent verbal and written communication skills for different levels of audiences
